Northern Bank today unveiled Macmillan Cancer Support as its new charity partner for 2007. The fundraising partnership aims to help Northern Ireland’s 40,000 cancer patients cope with the financial costs of the illness.

The aim of the partnership is to raise more than £80,000. Northern Bank has kick-started the partnership by launching its new Charity Bond and has pledged to donate £5 for every bond opened to the appeal, to a maximum of £15,000.

The bank’s charity partner programme includes corporate investment, staff fundraising, and donations through its Employee Charity Group and Sports and Social Club. Engaging Northern Bank employees from right across the country, the partnership will encourage them to get involved in all aspects of fundraising – from zipping over the Lagan to holding a coffee morning.

Macmillan’s new service will help cancer patients who experience a drop in income after they have been diagnosed.
Rhonda Gibson, External Relations Manager from Northern Bank said: As a bank, it seemed only natural that we should try to help with the financial impact of a disease which affects so many of us. We’re confident that we’ll get fantastic support from both customers and staff. Our charity bond is great for everyone – it provides a very good return on your deposit and also makes a real difference to people who are in genuine need of our help.”
