London Councils start commissioning process for grants

Howard Lake | 1 February 2007 | News

London Councils (formerly the Association of London Government) is holding five meetings across London in February to explain the new commissioning process for its £28m grants programme for voluntary sector projects.

The events will explain how the new system will work. Following a major consultation last year London Councils reviewed the way it distributed the funds and has chosen to ‘commission’ services from te voluntary sector rather than operate an ‘open bidding’ system. It says this will ‘better address’ the needs of Londoners across the capital.

Commissioning priorities include: helping children living in poverty, tackling crime; supporting the homeless; giving people with disabilities better opportunities; promoting greater recycling; and improving access to health.
