New Year honours for voluntary sector people

The Guardian has published a handy list of local government, health, voluntary, and social care professionals who have been awarded honours by the Queen at the end of 2006. Only one has a direct fundraising role: Robert Russell Thompson, director of fundraising at the Royal British Legion has been awarded an OBE for services to ex-servicemen and women.
Others of course have been recognised for activities that include fundraising. For example, Janet Allen, organiser of the Scalford Friday Club, has helped raise about £125,000 for various charities including £60,000 for Cancer Research UK. Professor Malcolm Green, founder of the British Lung Foundation, has been knighted: his fundraising support for the charity includes decorating his sailing boat with the British Lung Foundation red balloon logo and organising a myriad of cycling, running and swimming events, many of which he has taken part in himself.
CAF’s former Executive Director, Donor Services, Jenny Byers, has been awarded an OBE for services to charity.
