Institute of Fundraising Boosts ImpACT Coalition

Howard Lake | 6 December 2006 | Newswire

The Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) announces that it has boosted the ImpACT (Improving Accountability, Clarity and Transparency) Coalition – a group of more than 70 top charities and trade bodies working to increase public trust and confidence in charities – by making a substantial investment in its work.
The Institute is to fund the post of a Project Director as part of a £50,000 investment in the Impact Coalition. The Coalition’s new Project Director will call on organisations to embrace the current culture of accountability and transparency, as highlighted in the Institute of Fundraising’s Accountability and Transparency Code.
Commenting on this development, Campbell Robb, Director General of the Office of the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office, states: Trust and confidence in charities is vital if the third sector is to benefit from public support. Being open and transparent about how charities are run is key to this, and I am delighted that the Institute has decided to use part of its funding from government to strengthen the ImpACT Coalition.”
Lindsay Boswell, Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising, says: The Institute has chosen to invest in the ImpACT coalition and drive it forward thanks to core funding from the Office of the Third Sector. The new Coalition Project Director will have three key functions – to increase the number of ImpACT Coalition member charities, to encourage members to fully embrace accountability and transparency issues and to seek funding to make sure ImpACT remains sustainable in the long-term.”
Alan Gosschalk Chair of the ImpACT Coalition and Director of Fundraising at Shelter, adds: This new post is vitally important to the long-term success of the ImpACT Coalition. To date, over 70 top UK charities and trade bodies have signed up to a commitment to greater openness, explaining to supporters the reality of how modern day charities fundraise. It’s now time to take ImpACT to the next level. The Institute’s investment in the Coalition will bring a greater commitment to sector-wide transparency in the future.”
