Institute Disappointed By Delay To Fundraising Regulation In The Charities Act

Howard Lake | 6 December 2006 | Newswire

The Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) is disappointed to see the fundraising regulation of the Charities Act for England will not be timetabled until 2009.
Megan Pacey, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Institute of Fundraising, says:
We are hugely disappointed to learn that fundraising regulation is unlikely to happen until 2009. I field phone calls every day from fundraising organisations asking when they will have the regulation to implement the new Charities Act and this is not going to be the answer they to want to hear.
The Institute urges the Government to invest in the areas of the civil service that can take this regulation forward sooner and thereby maintain and increase public trust and confidence in the fundraising sector.”
The following three areas of the Charities Act will impact directly on fundraising:
§ Public charitable collections: revised legislation in relation to all types of fundraising activities in public places
§ Fundraising Statements
§ Self-regulation for fundraising organisations
