WaterAid is Britain’s most admired charity, as revealed in Third Sector magazine’s annual Charities Awards. Save the Children came second, followed by Samaritans.

The charity magazine has held the poll for four years. It is voted on on over two rounds. In the first round Third Sector’s readers cast their votes and in the second round a group from the leaders of the 500 largest voluntary organisations vote.

This year Samaritans did particularly well, rising from fifth in 2005 to third in the ‘most admired’ category and from ninth in the ‘most innovative’ charity category in 2005 to seventh in 2006.
