NICVA offers online donations service

Howard Lake | 23 November 2006 | News

NICVA, the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action, is enabling its member charities to accept online donations via its communityni.org website. NICVA’s online donations tool includes the facility for NICVA to collect Gift Aid on qualifying donations on behalf of the recipient charity.

NICVA charges an administration fee for handling online donations of 6% of the gross donation. There is no set up fee for the service and there is also no monthly fee. This 6% admin fee includes the credit card transaction fees and all other fees associated with online payments service WorldPay, which NICVA uses to process the donations.

To use the service NICVA members must be registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or be recognised as a charity for tax purposes by the Inland Revenue.

NICVA says that it will send charities using the service a monthly report detailing donations and donors (unless they ask for anonymity) together with information regarding Gift Aided donations.

NICVA also offers advise on publicising the online donations tool to a charity’s supporters.

Nine organisations are currently listed on communityni.org as accepting online donations via this service, including Belfast Central Mission, Disability Action NI, and Windsor Women’s Centre.
