Open source effort to free up the postcode file

Howard Lake | 2 November 2006 | Blogs

Fed up with paying for the postcode address file or being restricted in the uses you can make of it? An initiative to create an independent, open source version of the Royal Mail’s postcode data is underway and is already one-third complete.
Postcode Lite is asking individuals in England and Wales to enter their postcodes and identify their location. They are using out-of-copyright Ordnance Survey maps.
So, if this is the kind of service that would help your organisation, contribute your own data to help make it a success.
