MOVIES TO HELP MEND BROKEN HEARTS
~ New BHF & My Movie Stream Fundraising Partnership to help fewer hearts being broken ~
From Titanic to Ghost to Bambi, we Brits certainly do like a good weep whilst watching a movie! Moving films such as these have left nearly three quarters (73%) of us reaching for the nearest box of tissues. A survey to launch the new fundraising partnership between the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and MyMovieStream, has revealed our favourite heartbreaking films, key heart breakers and heart menders from the big screen. The fundraising partnership aims to raise vital funds to help fewer hearts being broken by heart disease.
Surprisingly, film The Green Mile was voted by a third of people as the most heart breaking movie of all time, whilst emotional scenes from Titanic and Ghost earned them second and third place in the tear jerking ratings. However, Watership Down and Bambi proved that animated films can also be emotional to watch with a total of 33% of people showing their softer side and admitting to finding them the most heart breaking!
Poor old Bridget Jones has shed more tears than most after having her heart crushed by Hugh Grant’s character Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones’ Diary. Fittingly, it was Daniel Cleaver who was voted as the biggest love rat with 25% of the vote, whilst Jude Law’s appearance as Alfie earned him second place, with 16%. Other on-screen ‘Mr Nasties’ included Alan Rickman (10%) as Harry in Love Actually, John Travolta (9%) as Danny Zuko in Grease and Pierce Brosnan (9%) as James Bond in Die Another Day.
However, those questioned felt sure there were a few movie stars who they’d happily have help them mend a broken heart. Top of the list of romancers was Johnny Depp (13%) who was able to fight off strong competition from George Clooney (12%) to claim top spot. In comparison, Angelina Jolie was top of the list of actresses with 7%.
DVD rental company, MyMovieStream is aiming to raise £75,000 during this three year affiliation by making a £10 donation to the BHF for every supporter who becomes a paying MyMovieStream customer, with a further 25p per month donation for each month they remain a paying customer.
Douglas Rouse, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the BHF said: The BHF is delighted to be working with MyMovieStream – corporate partnerships are an integral part of our fundraising activity and enable the Charity to continue its work saving and improving lives. Now, when you are watching your favourite film on DVD from MyMovieStream, you’ll also be helping the BHF to save and improve the lives of people with heart disease.
Natasha Bortoli, Marketing Manager at MyMovieStream said: MyMovieStream are really proud to be working in partnership with the British Heart Foundation. This gives us the opportunity to deliver even better value DVD-rental-by-post to BHF supporters while also raising valuable funds to help beat heart disease.”
