Online ticket exchange sets up charity auction page

Howard Lake | 26 October 2006 | News

Secondary ticketing business viagogo has set up a charity auction section on its website to allow people to buy tickets to charity events online.

The launch event to benefit is a concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in aid of Leonard Cheshire.

viagogo donates the webspace free and charges a commission on the ticket price when it is sold. For commercial organisations this is 15 per cent, but UK Fundraising understands this rate is negotiable for not-for-profit organisations. The company suggests that the final ticket prices advertised will include the commission so the charity does not lose out and viagogo is still able to cover administration and postage and packaging costs.

The company is curently in discussion with other charities to see how they can work together.

The site is an online secondary ticket exchange that allows people to buy and sell live vent tickets with viagogo ‘facilitating the trnsactions. Buyers receive genuine tickets and sellers can be assured they will be paid for the tickets. It has already set up partnerships with Manchester United and Chelsea FC, but there are areas for a large range of events.
