Institute of Fundraising welcomes remaining stages of the Charities Bill

The Institute of Fundraising (‘Institute’) is delighted to see the Charities Bill for England and Wales finally reaching its remaining stages in the House of Commons this afternoon.
In particular, the Institute recognises that the following three areas will impact directly on fundraising:
* Public charitable collections: revised legislation in relation to all types of fundraising activities in public places
* Fundraising Statements
* Self-regulation for fundraising organisations
Megan Pacey, Director of Policy and Campaigns at the Institute of Fundraising, says:
“Following many years of close consultation with the Government, regulatory bodies and the sector about the contents of the Bill, the Institute will continue to work to ensure that the views of fundraisers across the sector are reflected as the Bill is finally passed through Parliament to become law and we enter the phase of developing regulation to support its implementation.”
Following the reporting stage and Third Reading in the House of Commons this afternoon, the Charities Bill will return to the House of Lords before receiving Royal Assent in the middle of November. The process of consulting on and agreeing draft regulation and ./guidance will then be undertaken by the Charity Commission over the next 12 to 18 months.
