Fundraiser wins trip to Thailand

A dream has come true for door-to-door fundraiser Pamela Magill after she won a free return flight to Thailand in a novel competition involving Pattaya Orphanage Trust, British Airways and professional fundraising organisation, Fundraising Initiatives. The competition was based around the Pattaya’s recent two-month door-to-door donor acquisition campaign in Northern Ireland promoting child sponsorship, and was judged purely on quality of donor data obtained from newly recruited donors.

Pattaya Orphanage Trust, which provides welfare, medical and educational assistance to over 750 children and disabled young people in Thailand, collaborated with British Airways in an innovative competition involving fundraisers at Fundraising Initiatives.

First prize, a free return flight to Thailand courtesy of British Airways plus the chance to see the charity’s work in Thailand, was awarded to Magill, a fundraiser in Fundraising Initiatives’ Belfast office. Magill says: I can’t wait to meet some of the children at the orphanage that I worked so hard to help. To see first hand the difference that Northern Ireland`s donations have made will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

This is the first time that Pattaya Orphanage Trust has run a competition for door-to-door fundraisers and says it has been a huge success. Andrew Scadding, CEO at the Trust, says: This campaign has achieved tremendous results for us. The quality of donor data that was collected on the door cannot be overstated. For example, the high level of email address capture achieved during the campaign means that our ongoing donor communication can be much more cost effective. In addition, the average ask was £15 per month, Gift Aid uptake was 86% and of the 800 donors who were recruited, over 70% are still giving.
