Reading based BG Group raises over £200,000 for charity

– 30+ TEAMS TEST THEIR ENDURANCE AT THE BG ENERGY CHALLENGE – UK –
Reading based BG Group today announces that it has raised over £200,000 for leading humanitarian charity, CARE International. Over 30 teams in or related to the energy industry competed at the 2006 BG Energy Challenge – UK, an event designed to bring together teams from across the energy industry.
The event, organised in collaboration with Challenger World, saw competitors from 31 teams battle it out over two days of grueling competition in the Cambrian mountains of Wales. Total E & P UK finally prevailed in the five-stage event, which saw teams from all aspects of the energy industry, including BP and Conoco Phillips UK Ltd, tested to their limits in a series of mental and physical challenges.
The champions were followed by Ernst and Young, who came in second just ahead of BP. By triumphing in this event Total E & P UK has earned a place in the one of the 2007 BG Energy Challenge series of event, where they will compete against some of the best corporate teams from in and around the energy industry.
Kept in the dark about what each stage involved until the last minute, all teams showed courage, commitment and determination in challenges that combined orienteering, mountain biking and canoeing with complex construction, code breaking and mental puzzles. Winning team members Patrick Guenkel, Mark Ironside, Nigel Gamlin, Howard Fletcher, Iain Park and Terry Cooper showed mental and physical expertise and unbelievable team spirit as they triumphed to be crowned victors of the BG Energy Challenge – UK.
