Dorset-based actor Martin Clunes has become a Patron of Julia’s House, Dorset’s only children’s hospice.

Clunes, who lives in West Dorset, found out about the work of Julia’s House through one of its carers, Carole Lilley, who provides care for children in Bridport in their own homes.

Clunes, who appears in the lead role in in the ITV comedy drama series ‘Doc Martin’, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to become a patron of this lovely house. So much care and expertise has gone into the design and build of every element, this house is going to make a huge difference to the lives of a great many people in the county.”

Julia’s House Chief Executive Martin Edwards said: “We’re thrilled to have Martin’s support. In the last year we have quadrupled the number of hours of home care we provide, built the children’s hospice, and seen referrals of children to us rise considerably, so achieving a higher profile through our Patrons can only be good news for our fundraising.”

Other Patrons of the charity include Premiership football manager Harry Redknapp, CBeebies presenter Chris Jarvis, Annette Brooke MP, the Hon. Mrs Pamela Drax of Charborough Park, and The Right Reverend Timothy Thornton, Bishop of Sherborne.
