COMPANIES RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL CHARITY
12/06/06
Two well-known companies have joined forces to raise more than £2,000 for St Teresa’s Hospice.
Staff from Argos Direct, the delivery service for the high-street store, and international transport and freight specialist DHL Exel Supply Chain, teamed up for a special Christmas Fayre in aid of the Darlington-based Hospice, which was held in Argos’s distribution centre at the town’s Faverdale East Business Park.
The money raised during the event, was later matched by Exel’s head office in London, with an additional raffle held during Exel’s Manager’s Dinner Dance, earlier this year.
In total, the firms raised £2,526.69 for St Teresa’s Hospice, which will now be used to fund the charity’s palliative and at home respite care.
St Teresa’s Hospice, which is a founding member of the Darlington Charity Partnership, relies almost entirely on charitable donations, with fundraising and payroll contributions covering the majority of its annual running costs.
Exel will also be supporting the charity’s ‘It’s A Knockout’ fundraiser, later this year.
St Teresa’s Hospice Director, Jane Bradshaw, said: I am so pleased that these national companies have taken an interest in the work we are doing at the Hospice and were able to offer their support in such a thoughtful and generous way.”
Andrew Turner, Delivery Services Manager for Argos Direct, said: St Teresa’s Hospice is an important charity, and one which does a lot of great work in the Darlington community. This was an ideal chance for us to help give something back to the town, in which we now have our own distribution centre.”
Bryan Nixon, General Manager for DHL Exel Supply Chain, said: Our parent company DHL has offices and employees spread across the world, but it is important to us that we are able to support regional and local causes. We were delighted to be able to help St Teresa’s Hospice.”
