Read4Charity.co.uk, the online books site that donates 15% of sales to charities, has raised over £5,000 so far this year.

The site will be launched officially at the Hay Literary Festival this week, one of the largest literary festivals in the world.

Compared to Amazon.co.uk, the site features a very small range of books for sale, all of them at a discount. Nevertheless, the focus on a relatively small number of titles in the various categories might prove attractive to some shoppers.

Publishers involved in providing books for Read4Charity.co.uk include Hodder Headline, Random House, Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins and Penguin.

Funds generated are passed to the recipient charities on a quarterly basis. Current charity partners include Scope, Shelter, Harvest Help, Breast Cancer Haven, and CLAPA – Cleft Lip and Palate Association. Each of them receive a branded webpage on the Read4Charity website, which the charity can then direct its supporters to.

The site is open to other charities to participate.
