World Cup Charity Challenge launched

Nationals from some of the countries taking part in the World Cup this year have come together in Belfast to help launch the World Cup Charity Challenge competition which will raise funds for the Ulster Cancer Foundation’s Family and Patient Centre.

The Charity Challenge asks people to fill in the competition coupon and predict the scores in the 48 qualifying rounds of the World Cup. The winner will receive a trip for two to a Champion’s League away game. Participants are asked to make a £5 donation to the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Joyce Savage of the Ulster Cancer Foundation said the competition with such a good top prize, as well as exciting others, will be a big attraction for all armchair football pundits.

We know that the World Cup is a huge event and we hope that people will support this charity aspect which will raise money for our Family and Patient Centre which helps people who are going through the trauma of a cancer diagnosis, she said.

Mrs Savage thanked the competition sponsors, Botanic Inns and IT company Fusio who have made the event possible.

Botanic Inns managing director Stephen Magorrian said his company was delighted to bring a community angle to the hype around the World Cup. IT company Fusio have deleveloped software that will calculate the winning scores.

The World Cup Charity Challenge will run until June 8th with the winners announced in July. Competitors will get 3 points for a correct score and 1 point for a correct result. As well as the Champion’s League trip there will be a cash prize and 10 meals for two in two leading local restaurants.
