Dormant Accounts Fund calls for applications

Up to ‚€3 million is being made available from the Dormant Accounts Fund in Ireland under the Economic and Social Disadvantage Category for projects supporting community based services for older people. This funding is part of ‚€60 million allocated for 2006 from the Fund.

An allocation of ‚€60 million has been approved for the Dormant Accounts Fund in 2006. The breakdown of this figure under the various categories is as follows:

A. Economic & Social Disadvantage 40% or ‚€24 million
B. Educational Disadvantage 30% or ‚€18 million
C. Persons with a Disability 30% or ‚€18 million

The roll out of funding will be co-ordinated by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs which is the lead Department in the implementation of the 2006 Dormant Accounts Funding Programme.

Unlike the 2003 / 2004 call for applications Categories A, B and C will not be announced at the same time.

This latest funding round is intended to provide interventions and supports for community based services to assist older people to continue living in their own homes and in the community. The funding will be directed at locally based community and voluntary groups.

The Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the Department of Health and Children will be responsible for handling the applications. Application forms can be obtained on 01 2400700. The deadline is 2nd June.

The Dormant Accounts Fund was established from money that was languishing in Irish bank accounts for many years and has already distributed ‚€30 million.
