Drivers track donated charity campaign truck via the web

UK road users are being encouraged to track the nationwide progress of an awareness campaign that Ford of Britain are taking to the road on behalf of The Prostate Cancer Charity. Truck spotting enthusiasts can log the progress on the charity’s online ‘Trailer Tracker’.

Ford’s Transport Operations team is supporting the charity to spread the message that men need to be aware of the symptoms of prostate cancer before it is too late.

Ford has donated the use of a vehicle parts delivery trailer, carrying The Prostate Cancer Charity’s ‘Real Men Know All About It’ theme on its side. The trailer will travel throughout Britain and raise awareness of prostate cancer. The trailer’s message will also contain the number of the charity’s confidential helpline .

John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: “It’s like having our own 40ft long mobile billboard travelling the highways and byways of the UK, which is a great way of getting an important message across to the public – especially to men who are often hard to reach.”

Roger Rogers, Ford Transport Operations manager, added: “Ford Dagenham supports The Prostate Cancer Charity in a number of ways, including fundraising from an employee five-a-side football match and wristbands worn to increase awareness.

“Managers and our trade union are encouraging male workers to have regular health checks and the advice is getting through.”

The charity’s website currently indicates that the tracking map is held by staff at their head office. Sharing the map in an online form, perhaps using one of the many interactive mapping tools available from the likes of Multimap and Google Earth, might prove more compelling and generate a better response.
