Charities launch new payroll giving initiative

Howard Lake | 2 November 2005 | News

Six of Northern Ireland’s best known charities have joined together to create a payroll giving consortium. The consortium, called Northern Ireland Charities Together (NICT), will provide employees with the opportunity to give to charity through pre-tax donations direct from the payroll.

The charities in the consortium are the Ulster Cancer Foundation, Age Concern, Clic Sargent NI, Childline, NI Chest, Heart and Stroke and RNIB. By forming this coalition NICT says there will be a saving on administration, allowing more to go the charitable cause.

‘Our consortium approach offer donors a realistic, easy and cost effective way of supporting a cross section of local charities,’ says Joyce Savage, chair of NICT. ‘Until now this was only possible through a split donation, resulting in multiple administration charges for each charity,’ Ms Savage said.

‘People in Northern Ireland traditionally donate more to charity than in any other part of the UK and we want to make it as easy as possible for people,’ she added.
