Four Irish charities are to share in the €2 million proceeds from the sale of a house in Dublin. Dr Gearoid Crookes left the property at 18 Fitzwilliam Place to St Vincent de Paul, Trocaire, Concern and Bothar.

The house has been sold at auction and the charitable bequest is made up of the residue of the estate. The charities, however, may have to wait some time before they receive the money as an individual is claiming he has some rights to a kitchenette which forms part of the property.

Dr Crookes was an ophthalmic surgeon and it is understood that he made other provisions in his will before making the charitable bequests.
