Donations to hurricane Katrina relief "to top $1 billion"
According to the Christian Science Monitor, online donations to the American Red Cross for its relief work in the wake of hurricane Katrina already total $15 million. Giving USA estimates that individual and corporate donations could reach $1 billion.
The Christian Science Monitor adds that US companies have contributed more than one million pounds in weight of groceries through food banks, and the US Chamber of Commerce expects initial corporate donations to the relief effort to reach $100 million.
