The Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize is now the world’s largest prize with an award of $1.5 million, a 50% increase on the $1 million awarded annually over its first decade. The Hilton Prize, funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, is awarded to organisations that are significantly alleviating human suffering.

“To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the prize and to underscore the tremendous humanitarian needs facing our globe, the Hilton Foundation board has increased the prize to $1.5 million,” said Steven Hilton, chairman and CEO of the Hilton Foundation.

“The prize was established in 1996 to call attention to organizations that are effective and innovative leaders in addressing humanitarian needs and to encourage others to contribute to their good work,” he said.

The Hilton Prize is awarded each year at the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Symposium which brings together distinguished thinkers and decision makers in humanitarianism, human rights, and public policy. Featured speakers have included such dignitaries as The Dalai Lama, former U.S. presidents George Bush and Jimmy Carter, Her Majesty Queen Noor, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The symposiums and prize ceremonies have been held in New York City and Geneva, Switzerland.
