New name for Battersea Dogs Home

Battersea Dogs Home has today changed its name to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. The change officially marks the work that the Home does for the lost and abandoned cats in its care.

Duncan Green, Director General of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home said: “Many people are still unaware that the Home rescues, reunites and rehomes hundreds of cats every year, and has done since 1883. Our feline friends are such a big part of the Home so it’s only right that we make their status official”.

The official logo will be changed over time, but the charity said that this wasn’t a decision that was made lightly. By 2001, Battersea’s cat intake reached 25% of their total animal intake but, in spite of the BBC TV series, many people still did not know that they had cats at the London site.

In addition, recent research amongst supporters highlighted that the current logo wasn’t felt to reflect the publics’ perception of the Home as a warm, caring and welcoming organisation.

The rebranding was carried out by Renton & Johnston who beat two other agencies in a pitch for the work last year.
