Mental Health Foundation launches children's appeal
The Mental Health Foundation has launched an appeal to raise money for a project to help children of parents with a severe mental health problem.
The Mental Health Foundation hopes its May 2005 appeal, which will be mailed to current donors, will raise over £26,000 for its Children of Parents with a Severe Mental Illness project. The money will be used to discover exactly how services can help children build resilience to their parents’ illnesses.
According to the Foundation, 60% of women with a serious mental illness have children under the age of 16. These children are at a much higher risk of developing a mental health problem than others but there are very few centres in the UK dedicated to their needs.
