Community Newswire publishes its 5,000th news release
Following its launch in June 2004, Community Newswire, the free service run by the Media Trust and The Press Association to help community and voluntary groups gain coverage in the media, has published its 5,000th news release.
Community Newswire originally aimed to publish twenty stories a day, selected from those submitted by voluntary organisations, but have actually achieved a daily average of 32, according to VolResource.
Professional journalists edit submitted pieces for publication on the Community Newswire service. VolResource further report that a remarkable 94% of submitted press releases have been published.

This should be another key outlet for those promoting their fundraising campaigns, although VolResource believes that “there is great scope for [voluntary organisations] to submit more interesting material.” So far only around 1,300 groups have used the free service.
