Direct Debit Charity awards open for nominations

Howard Lake | 16 January 2005 | News

Charities that have achieved an increase in regular donations through direct debits are being invited to enter the 2005 Direct Debit Charity Awards.

BACS Payment Schemes Ltd (BPSL) are organising the awards, which are also designed to highlight the fact that people who donate regularly through Direct Debit are more likely to make their gifts under Gift Aid.

There are three awards in this their inaugural year: the Achievement Award, for the charity with the most improved (year on year) Direct Debit take up; the Innovation Award, for the most creative use of original ideas and processes to promote Direct Debit; and the Best Practice Award, for the charity achieving the highest level of organisational improvements and customer satisfaction by offering Direct Debit as an alternative payment method.

Entry to all award categories is free. Entry forms can be downloaded from the awards’ website.

Michael Chambers, Managing Director, BACS Payment Schemes Ltd, said: “The impact of Gift Aid cannot be understated. Earlier this year we highlighted astonishing research uncovering that charities forego income approaching £400 million a year because of donations that fail to take advantage of the tax breaks available to them. It makes sense for Direct Debit to work with charitable organisations to try and maximise the flow of funds for worthy causes.”

The awards are open to all UK charities. Each winner will be presented with a trophy and all entrants will be entered into a prize draw to win a donation of £1000 to their charity.
