Guardian Christmas Appeal last year raised £844,836
The Guardian’s Christmas Appeal 2003 raised a record £844,836 from its readers. This year’s appeal is getting underway.
The 2003 Guardian Christmas Appeal’s record total was distributed among Medecins Sans Frontieres and charities tackling domestic violence in the UK.
Over the next five weeks The Observer, the Guardian, Guardian Weekly and GuardianUnlimited will be reporting on and encouraging donations to the work of international development charity Concern, together with eight UK-based care organisations. These local organisations were identified by charity research organisation New Philanthropy Capital as those where “donations will have the greatest effect.”

Concern has appointed Anderson Manning Associates (AMA) to handle all the inbound calls and process donations posted in on coupons from the appeal.
