The Association of Fundraising Consultants’ (AFC) new and expanded Board will take forward its vision to raise professional standards in fundraising, including the introduction of the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) programme to the UK.

The new Chair of the AFC is Andrew Day, Group Chief Executive of Compton International. The other members of the Board are drawn from across the United Kingdom, working in all parts of the European not-for-profit sector, including Andrew de Mille, Peter Pantelli, David Morris, Mark Jefferies, Andrew Thomas, Patrick Boggon, Eileen Hammond, Stefan Lipa and Robert Astick.

Day said: “We are working not only to recognise colleagues who meet international requirements, but voluntarily to raise standards – an approach that will be more enduring than the alternative of government licensure or imposed ‘codes of conduct’ set by a central controlling body.”

Established in 1990, the AFC is committed to advancing philanthropic endeavour, and AFC members also subscribe to a code of ethics, regular peer review and client reference checks.

It has an international outlook with affiliations with other like-minded bodies in other countries to ensure that its members have the benefit of an international perspective of the fundraising profession.

It has led the introduction of the CFRE in the UK. The first CFRE exam was held in June 2004 and there are now 23 CFRE’s living in Britain, out of the 4,500 senior fundraising professionals who hold the certification worldwide.
