RSPCA launches fighting fund to change archaic cruelty laws

The RSPCA is calling for major reforms to nearly 100-year old animal welfare laws and the charity is mailing its donors in an effort to galvanise support.

The mail pack for the appeal, designed by Whitewater, makes the point that animals are dying because of outdated cruelty laws.

Under current laws the charity has to wait until an animal has actually suffered before it can take any legal action against its owner. The RSPCA is calling for a new bill to be made a priority in the 2004 Queen’s Speech. The Bill would enable the RSPCA to save animals at risk before actual harm is caused. The charity believes a change in legislation would benefit thousands of animals.

The mailpack asks for supporters’ help in setting up a £300,000 fighting fund to get the new laws in place.
