Fundraising conman sentenced to three years

Howard Lake | 12 January 2004 | News

A man who set up “Starlight Fundraising” as a “good cause” but who used the £113,000 he raised to pay off his mortgage and buy a car has been jailed for three years at Bradford Crown Court.

Dean White was convicted on 27 charges of going equipped to cheat. He got away with his activities for three years before a worker from the similarly-named and genuine charity Starlight Childrens Foundation alerted the police.

Oddly he did pass on £1,550 to Barnardo’s and £1,100 to the British Institute for Brain Injured Children from the money he raised.
