Evening Standard lists London's 100 richest people

The Evening Standard today begins its series of the wealthiest 100 people in London.

The combined wealth of the top 100 people in London is £56.7 billion, according to the Evening Standard. The newspaper today publishes its first four-page instalment: starting with John Murphy worth £95 million at number 100, the list reaches Elliott Bernerd worth £155 million at number 72.

The London Rich List is only available in the newspaper: it has not been reproduced online.

To qualify for inclusion people had to be resident in Greater London for most of the year or own substantial assets in the capital. They did not have to be UK citizens: indeed 34 of the 100 are not UK citizens.

Property and construction have yielded most entries in the list, although finance and banking account for 14 of the 100. Media and retail account for 25 of the 100. Twenty four of the 100 have inherited their wealth.
