Charities miss out on £135 million this Christmas, says Giving Campaign

The Giving Campaign says that charities are
missing out on £135 million of income at Christmas 2003 because not enough donors are currently giving through Gift Aid.

The national campaign to raise the national level of giving is encouraging donors and charities to remember to use and promote Gift Aid this Christmas.

In December last year, people donated over £1 billion to charity, but this figure could have been a great deal higher if more people has given through Gift Aid. This Christmas, if all taxpayers who currently give to charity were to use Gift Aid on their donations, it would mean an extra £135 million for the recipient charities.

Phillip Mind, Director of The Giving Campaign says: “With only around 20% of donors currently using Gift Aid, charities are missing out on millions more in vital income.”
