CAF launches Donor get Donor campaign

Howard Lake | 2 October 2003 | News

For the first time, CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) is offering an incentive when donors open a Charity Account or introduce friends and family to the service.

The ‘Donor get donor’ campaign is designed to encourage tax-effective giving by offering £15 to the current account holder, and the donors they refer.

CAF has launched the campaign because it is concerned that charities are missing
out about £1 billion of extra income going unclaimed from the Inland Revenue.

“Charity Account, which acts like a bank account for charitable donations was set up to make tax-effective giving more flexible and efficient”, said John Thurley, new Head of Charity Account Services at CAF.

“We are calling on Charity Account holders to act as ambassadors and encourage friends and family to also open an account. CAF will then add £15 to the original donor’s account, and £15 to their friend’s new account, enabling both donors to give even more money to the charities of their
choice.”

The CAF Charity Account can be funded by a number of methods including Give As You Earn, Gift Aid, or gifts of quoted stocks and shares. Where appropriate, tax is reclaimed by CAF and added to the account balance.

Account holders are given a ‘chequebook’ and a CharityCard to distribute the funds securely and, if they decide, anonymously by post, phone or online to any recognised charity and in whatever amounts they choose.

There are currently 80,000 Charity Account holders making donations of £60 million every year and £14 million is reclaimed from the Inland Revenue.

CAF hopes to increase the number of
account holders by at least 5%.
