Over 2000 tonnes of surplus office furniture collected for charities

Not-for-profit enterprise Green-Works has secured over two thousand tonnes of surplus office furniture to pass on at low cost to charities, schools, start-up businesses and community groups.
The London-based recyling social enterprise has collected the surplus office furniture from organisations such as HSBC, Clifford Chance and Kingfisher. It has built up extensive stocks of desks, chairs, filing cabinet and other pieces of office equipment. Office desks, for example, can be can be bought for around £20.
Green-Works has collaborated with Remploy, which has a string of regional outlets including a large warehouse based in Woolwich. Here, office furniture is thoroughly checked over and brought up to scratch where necessary by a team of dedicated staff. Items collected include desks, filing cabinets, printers, even waste-paper bins and stationery.

Green-Works is planning to expand its service by launching franchise operations across the country. Currently it has three regional outlets in Woolwich (SE28), Silvertown (E16) and Portsmouth, Hampshire.
