Oxfam brings in 14% of its London Marathon income online

Howard Lake | 7 May 2002 | News

More than 14% of this year’s London Marathon fundraising total for Oxfam has come in online through the charity’s partnership with Bmycharity.

Four months after launching its online sponsorship Web site, more than 14% of Oxfam’s sponsorship donations from this year’s London Marathon has come in online through Bmycharity.

John Mercer, Oxfam’s London Marathon coordinator, has championed the development of Oxfam’s e-fundraising strategy. He says “Bmycharity’s online reporting helps us to process donations more cost-effectively than cash and cheque donations. Our runners find this kind of fundraising easy and enjoyable.”

Oxfam’s Bmycharity Web site enables Oxfam to control the content of all sites created by individuals engaged in sponsorship events. It also helps by simplifying the accounting and data management aspects of fundraising, and reduces costs for the finance and IT departments.

Bmycharity partner charities have so far raised more than £6,800 each on average from the Marathon alone. Charity partners include Save the Children, Diabetes UK, Shelter, the National Asthma Campaign, the Children’s Society, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and NCH.
