Amazon.co.uk adds second-hand goods sales to its site
Amazon.co.uk’s new second-hand good service could offer charities another channel for selling their donated goods.
Visitors to Amazon.com’s UK and German sites can now buy and sell second-hand goods via the site. Users can sell new and used items on the same pages that Amazon sells its own inventory. Visitors can choose whether to buy from Amazon or from an individual seller.
With many charities using online auctions to sell donated goods and collectable items, this new service is worth testing to see if it too can convert donated goods into cash. For example, it could prove particularly attractive for charities with books that are currently unavailable from the Amazon site, or which would take a long time to order. Some clever selection and positioning of items by charities could yield better and faster income than selling the items in a shop.
