Stephen Pidgeon, chairman of Target Direct, was not impressed with the recent US fundraising conference run by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Stephen Pidgeon, chairman of Target Direct, was not impressed with the recent US fundraising conference run by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. “Truly, it is a ghastly conference,” he wrote in Third Sector magazine. “The conference simply doesn’t work,” he adds, “with little opportunity to meet anyone else.”

As a result, as chairman of the ICFM Fundraising Convention, he and the convention team have thought hard about how to develop the event. Future growth in delegate numbers is difficult, but he raised the issue of adding other non-fundraising issues to the convention agenda, including lobbying and campaigning and integrating communications and fundraising.
