As of today, it is illegal for a company to telephone an individual who has registered so as not to receive telemarketing calls at home. Companies, including telemarketing agencies working on behalf of charities, face a penalty of £5,000 if they make an unsolicited call to such individuals. They have 28 days to clear their records of people who have registered with the Telephone Preference Service.
