How are UK voluntary sector organisations using information and communications technology? How does your charity’s use of IT compare with others’? A new report from the Centre for the Study of Telematics and Governance at Glasgow Caledonian University attempts to quantify charities’ take-up of IT.
“Re-shaping the Voluntary Sector in the Information Age”, by Dr Eleanor Burt and Professor John Taylor, looked at UK voluntary organisations with annual incomes of £250,000 to over £11 million. Headline figures from the report indicate that of those organisations using computer networking applications, 53% had a Web site, and 68.9% used external e-mail. Eighty-four per cent of respondents used some form of computer networking.

The research upon which the report is based is funded by the ESRC as part of its Virtual Society? programme.
