Charity Commission's use of the Internet

Paul Fredericks, Head of Communications at the Charity Commission, writes in this month’s ACENVO VOICE magazine, about the Commission’s use of the Internet.

He explains that they have had a presence since 1995, and in 1996 enhanced the site with the full range of Commission publications.

He reports that the Commission is asked frequently whether business can be conducted via the Internet. “These requests are being considered,” he reports.

Perhaps not surprisingly the most common request is for the Public Register of Charities to be made available online. He announces that from the Autumn a copy of the Register will be available on the site. He quite rightly points out that “24 hour access to the information on the Public Register will help [people] and deliver the public accountability that is so important to public confidence.”

The Commission is also introducing an intranet, to be available to all its staff, which will provide up-to-date ./guidance materials to assist them in their work.
