The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has today published the sixth edition of its invaluable guide VAT for Voluntary Organisations.
The guide provides practical advice for voluntary and community organisations on how they can reduce their VAT liability whilst staying within the law.

Lucinda Shaw has been appointed Director of Corporate Partnerships and Events at RNID.
Lucinda previously worked at BLISS, the premature baby charity, where she has been Head of Fundraising for the past five years. She was responsible for developing a major partnership with Fairy Non-Bio which generated more than £100,000 as well as considerable press and TV advertising.

Callers to BBC Radio Ulster have complained about the content of a recent mailing from the Alzheimer Society.
Callers to the BBC said the mailing pack caused undue alarm by raising fears that they would be sufferers of Alzheimer's.
A spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Society apologised for any distress caused by the mailing.

Warwickshire County Council is looking for a charity to run a recycling shop in Leamington which will sell items left at the town's refuse tip but deemed suitable for selling.
The scheme is modelled on a successful initiative, the first of its kind in the UK, run by the Shakespeare Hospice at Burton Farm, near Stratford, which has raised over £150,000.

The Researchers in Fundraising special interest gourp is looking for speakers and themes for its next conference, expected to be held in September 2005.
The group is keen to hear from "anyone who would feel comfortable speaking to the group for around 45 minutes about prospect research, or any topic that would be of interest to prospect researchers."

The next dates for those taking the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) exam in the UK are 13 June, 14 September and 16 December 2005.
The CFRE, which is held by over 4,600 fundraisers in Australia, Canada, New Zealand the USA, and now the UK, is an internationally recognised credential for senior professional fundraisers.
