Markets operator ICAP plc will this week hold its 23rd annual global Charity Day on whic 100% of its revenues and commissions generated globally will be donated to 13 charities in the UK and a total of 200 around the world.
Since the group launched Charity Day in 1993, it has raised over £120 million for 1,800 charities around the world. Last year staff in over 60 offices raised £8 million for 200 charities. The group states that “this is equivalent to 3% of ICAP’s full year pre-tax profit for 2014/2015”.
This year’s event takes place on 9 December.
The ICAP Charity Day always involves some of the patrons of the charities who get involved on the phone to close deals and boost trading volumes. This year their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend  in support of SkillForce, of which The Duke is patron, as well as SportsAid and Place2Be, of which The Duchess is patron. In addition, Samantha Cameron will attend in support of the Mulberry Bush School and KIDS.
Last year, patrons attending included His Royal Highness Prince Harry, Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Dame Helen Mirren, Damian Lewis, George W.Bush and President of Singapore, Tony Tan Keng Yam.

Michael Spencer, Group Chief Executive Officer of ICAP, said:

“From our modest beginnings in 1993 when we had 100 employees, this event has grown to become a truly global fundraising event, of which we are extremely proud. This year, we will be supporting a further 200 extraordinary charities, all of whom are in need of funds to develop vital, life-changing projects which will make a difference to thousands of lives. We are dedicated to raising as much as we can for our charities on 9 December and are extremely grateful to our employees, customers and suppliers for their ongoing and generous support. Together we will all give 100%.”

How can charities benefit from future ICAP Global Charity Days?

UK Fundraising asked ICAP whether they would accept applications from other charities. This is what they told us:

“Due to the sheer volume of approaches we receive requesting Charity Day funding, we request that all those wishing to apply for potential support submit an official application via our online application system. This is a simple six step process, the information the charity provide will give ICAP an overview of the charity, its objectives and an insight into its financial income and expenditure.
All applications are responded to in order of submission, so please be patient for a response as it can take up to six weeks. If you have any questions regarding the online site please do not hesitate to contact ch*********@ic**.com.”
