Weather Lottery passes £5m mark in charity donations

Lottery fundraising company The Weather Lottery plc has now raised over £5 million for good causes. Established in 1998, the company’s lottery is based on players guessing the temperatures in Fahrenheit of selected destinations around Europe.
Run by Chief Operating Officer Kevin Dale, it donates 55% of each pound that it makes in profit. So far it has donated £5,011,100 to almost 1,000 charities, such as Age UK, Gloucester Rugby, The Liberal Democrat Party, the National Childbirth Trust, and York City Football Club.
It costs £1 to play and offers top prize of £25,000. If there are multiple winners they do not have to split the jackpot.
The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract uses The Weather Lottery plc. Nikki Ridgway, its fundraising and marketing manager, said: “The scheme is exceptionally easy to run. All the administration is taken care of, leaving us free to focus on promoting the lottery to our supporters”.
