Research underway into giving to higher education organisations

HEFCE (the Higher Education Funding Council for England) is undertaking a Review of Philanthropic Support for Higher Education throughout the UK.
The review will look at the current state of philanthropic support and attempt to address challenges for the next decade. The review is led by a board chaired by Professor Shirley Pearce, Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University. Board members include Martin Williams, Director of Higher Education Policy, Department of Business, Innovation and Skills; Nick Blinco, Director of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Birmingham; Sir Rick Trainor, Principal of King’s College London; and Rory Brooks of MML Capital Partners LLP.
The research follows on from the 2004 Thomas Report on Increasing Voluntary Giving to Higher Education, chaired by Eric Thomas, Vice-Chancellor, University of Bristol.
HEFCE have commissioned Dundee-based fundraising consultants More Partnership to support the review. They are seeking contributions from as wide a variety of sources as possible.
“Please do not think of this consultation as a questionnaire where every question has to be completed” they suggest. “Think of it instead as a menu of questions from which you can choose to answer just a few, or all if you prefer.”
The closing date for receipt of submissions in the public consultation phase is 7 June 2012.
