Does anyone happen to know the deadline for this year’s Christmas Appeal with The Independent? We are working on mid-October based on previous years but dont have a specific date.

    Any information would be great.

    Many thanks

Good question. I’ve just emailed The Independent to ask them. Will report back.

The PA to the Deputy Editor responded very quickly.

The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2009, and the decision on the chosen charity is usually made at the beginning of November.

Applications can be made at any time, but they recommend making them nearer the deadline so that their content is up to date.

The Independent requests a a one-page summary “so we can see at a glance what your charity is about”, together with any supporting documentation attached.

The newspaper is looking for a charity “that we think will touch a chord with our readers”. So, applications should demonstrate how a charity and its work would produce good stories and editorial for the newspaper.

Applicants should highlight any topical element to their appeal. Since it runs for two weeks with a story in the newspaper each day, you will need to demonstrate how you could provide sufficient editorial material to achieve this.

The editorial normally appears in the paper during the week leading up to Christmas day and the week in between Christmas and New Year.

    Applications should be addressed to
