I just have some quick questions.

1 – To claim Gift Aid does a charity need to be a Registered Charity?

2 – To claim Gift Aid, does a charity need to be providing Public Benefit in UK only , or can it be worldwide?

i hope you can answer them. Thanks

    Hi Hasanali

You don’t need to registered – it’s difficult for small charities to register now, but they can claim Gift Aid.

As long as the benefit is charitable, it can be worldwide.

Definitive ./guidance is on the HMRC website, and it’s they with whom you need to register for GA.

    Cheers

Can I just ask you to elaborate on how a charity can go about registering for GA if they do not yet have a charity number?

We are in the process of applying to the charities comission – but need to prove income of £5,000. Can I include GA in these calculations, even if I may not recieve it until after we have a charity number?

All help and advice greatfully recieved,
    Every Blessing,

    Rachel.
