Advice please from a cancer palliative care charity on the Costa del Sol
where we have started building a 12-bed hospice, the first independent one
in Spain.
We are a registered Spanish charity and are actively seeking public and
private funds on the Costa del Sol to complete building and equipping the
hospice which will serve the Spanish and international population of the
Costa del Sol, including around 250,000 “foreigners”, many British, the
rest from most EC states and the USA.
I have read with interest the information about publications and would
appreciate addresses for:
“The Directory of Grant Making Trusts” by the Charities Aid Foundation.
(I know the 1997 edition runs to two thick volumes and the CD – of
debatable value – is L176.25)
“The Guide to Major Trusts” and
“Millionaire Givers Guide”, published by OSC (sorry but located where I am
for the last 12 years I do not even know what OSC stands for!)
However it may be that people who have perused these publications will
advise “don’t bother – located in Spain you don’t have a chance”.
In the past five years our home care palliative medical teams have attended
more than 450 patients, around half Spanish and the remainder of many
nationalities with the British predominant so, maybe, we have a cause which
could find “overseas” support?

There is a fundraising research/prospecting company called the Factary, run
by a chap called Chris Carnie.

I believe he is now based in Barcelona, Spain, and has done some research
into funding for Spanish Organisations.

Their UK contcat no. is +44 117 924 0663

the website is http://www.charitynet.org

Firstly it’s DSC which stands for Directory of Social Change.
Their address is 24 Stephenson Way, London, NW1 2DP, E-mail:
info@d-s-c.demon.co.uk Tel: 0171 209 5151.

Now the big question of wether you have a hope in hell based in
spain. I’ve just done a search using the DSC CD-Rom (which isn’t bad
by the way) it brought up nought for Spain. To be perfectly honest
both books are particarly U.K. biased and when they do look at
overseas they are uasually meaning the developing world. By advise
would be to look at British companies who have an interest in Spain or
branches in spain and start working on them. For this the ‘Guide to
Company giving’98’ (also published by DSC) would be help.

Hope this is of help
