**One of Northern Ireland’s largest cancer charities has reported an increase in
income last year due to an exceptional increase in legacy income.**

[Action Cancer](http://www.actioncancer.org) raised £4 million in the financial
year to March 2019, up from £3.7 million the year before. The income figure includes
an in-kind contribution valued at £390,000 from advertising space donated from a
number of advertising agencies.

Legacy increased from £143,000 to £506,000 and helped to offset a drop in donation
and trading income which fell from, £360,000 to £260,000 and from £1.3 million to
£1.2 million respectively. The charity reported that trading income contributed
£163,000 to its fundraising, a fall of £50,000 from the year before.

fundraising activity such as street collections, bag packs, coffee mornings etc.

The charity also has strong links with the corporate sector, with retailers such
as Marks and Spencer and Centra raising money for the charity. High profile community
events such as the Bra walk and challenge events also contribute to Action’s Cancer
fundraising.

Both retail costs and fundraising costs increased slightly last year from £1.45
million to £1.5 million. Just over £500,000 was spent on general fundraising, with
the balance spent on retail costs.
