# IoF seminar in N Ireland to examine new data protection laws - Link: https://fundraising.co.uk/2017/04/27/iof-seminar-n-ireland-examine-new-data-protection-laws/ - Published: 2017-04-27T10:38:37+01:00 - Author: Howard Lake **The Institute of Fundraising in Northern Ireland (IoF) is holding a seminar on the new law relating to data protection which is coming into force next year.**   Delivered in partnership with Birketts law firm, the half day session on 19th June will focus on the changes introduced by the General Data Protection Regulation ( GDPR) and look at how these will impact on fundraising activities. It has been confirmed that this European legislation will be implemented in the UK, despite Brexit. ## Advertisement   During the session participants will be provided with guidance notes and helped to create a compliance step plan identifying the measures that each charity should take in the run up to May 2018.   Birketts say that complying with the new law will require a full review of existing data protection policies and procedures and is likely to mean the introduction of new measures across each organisation. The session will identify the steps organisations should take to prepare for the new law.   The final part of the seminar will be on the application of the new laws to fundraising activities.
